The Northeast Algal Society will convene its annual meeting and symposium at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH on the weekend of April 18-20, and will include a wide range of oral and poster presentations pertaining to the many facets of Phycology. As is always the case, the 2008 NEAS meeting will provide a relaxed and informal environment for students and professionals alike to meet colleagues, exchange ideas and make new friends. Awards will be presented for outstanding student posters and oral presentations. NEAS members take great pride in our commitment to student advancement and extend an especially warm welcome to all students.
Our theme this year is “Globalization of Phycology via the Internet” and we are thrilled to have Dr. Michael Guiry as our key-note speaker. We hope that professionals will consider giving talks that provide their vision of the roll of Internet tools and global databases in the future of Phycology.

Undergraduate and Graduate Student Research Awards
The society supports three competitions for the best oral or poster presentations of student research. The President's Award is for the best undergraduate oral or poster presentation, and there are separate Wilce Awards for the best graduate oral and best graduate poster presentation. Presentations will be judged on the level of student independence, experimental design, methods, data interpretation and presentation. If you are interested in competing (and all students should be), please sign up in the registration material below.
NEAS Auction!!!!!
Celebrity auctioneer Glen Thursby will host THE ANNUAL AUCTION on Saturday night following the Banquet. All proceeds go to the Student Fund. What can YOU do besides bring lots of $$$ to this event? If you have an item of phycological (or other) interest to donate to the auction, please bring them. We already have a large number of books, so we are particularly interested in other items. Please send a list of items that you are bringing to the meeting ahead of time so that the auction tags can be pre-filled out. Just about anything will be acceptable including old reprints, pet algae, foods based on edible (?) algae, favorite (or not) wines, sculptures or other hand-made items, clothing from august phycological personalities, NEAS t-shirts or mugs from the Pleistocene, and last, but not least, compromising pictures of colleagues. This last item is particularly desirable if your pictured colleagues will be at the meeting with Big Bucks. We would hate for a photograph to find its way to a phycological web site without the person(s) depicted in the photo having had a chance to purchase it! Students will receive a coupon in their registration packet that is good for 50%-off any one item they buy at the auction (live or silent).
